The shape
Two weeks, and only six times you have to pack. Thirteen nights across seven bases, with three at the end on the coast. Two of the stops - Wattegama and Belihuloya - have nothing scheduled at all.
A morning walking beside rescued elephants rather than watching them perform. Sigiriya climbed at golden hour instead of dawn, because nobody on a honeymoon wants a five o’clock alarm. Two days at a mountain property with a natural pool and no plan. A candle-lit dinner on the sand at Kirinda. Yala. Then three nights on the coast.
The route is built around the pauses rather than the sights. There are two days on this journey where the itinerary says nothing, and they are the two we would protect first.

What each day holds
Day by day
Day 1 · Negombo
14-Day Sri Lanka Honeymoon, Knuckles & Southern Coast Escape
Met at the airport and driven twenty minutes up the coast. Nothing is scheduled. The point of this night is that the honeymoon starts properly rather than at half strength.
Days 2–3 · Dambulla · two nights
Elephants, then the rock at gold
Inland to the Elephant Freedom Project at Rambukkana - rescued working elephants, walked down to the river rather than ridden, and lunch with the family who keep them. On to a forest lodge at Dambulla. The next day is Sigiriya in the late afternoon: the water gardens, the frescoes and the mirror wall on the way up, the plain going gold from the summit, and no five o’clock alarm.
Days 4–5 · Wattegama · two nights
The relic, then two days with nothing in them
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth in the morning and a walk around the lake, then up to Wattegama in the Knuckles foothills. The following day has nothing in it on purpose - a natural rock pool, forest on three sides, and a property built to be stayed in rather than left every morning.
Day 6 · Nuwara Eliya
Up through the tea
Ramboda Falls on the climb, then the Bluefield factory and a tasting at the bench. One night at Nuwara Eliya, six thousand feet up and cold enough after dark to want a fire.
Days 7–8 · Belihuloya · two nights
The river at Belihuloya
South-west through the highlands to Belihuloya, where the river comes down through forest and the village is mostly the sound of it. The second day is Pahanthudawa - a waterfall with a rock pool under it - fish therapy if you can sit still for it, and the riverbank for the rest.
Days 9–10 · Yala · two nights
A table on the sand
Down through the Ella landscapes toward Yala. Dinner is at Kirinda that evening - a table, candles, and the sea, weather permitting. The next afternoon is the park itself: leopards if you are lucky, elephants and sloth bear and a great deal of birdlife if you are not.
Days 11–13 · Unawatuna · three nights
Three nights on the coast
West along the coast, stopping at Koggala for the stilt fishermen, then Unawatuna for the rest of it. There is a cooking morning at Angara Home if you want one - the market, the garden, then the kitchen - and the fort at Galle for the ramparts at sunset. Beyond that, three days of nothing much, which after two weeks is the point.
Day 14 · Departure
A last swim, then the expressway north.
