Seven ways to travel the same island. What changes isn’t the map — it’s everything around it.
Twenty-two centuries, still legibleHeritage
Twenty-two centuries of written history and eight World Heritage sites, most of them reachable before the coaches arrive.
Placeholder copy. The Cultural Triangle rewards an early start more than almost anywhere else on the island: the gates at Sigiriya open at seven, and the difference between arriving then and arriving at nine is the difference between a rock you climb and a rock you queue on.
Placeholder copy. A typical heritage journey runs eight to eleven days, moving between Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and Kandy, with a chartered guide rather than a site-gate guide, and enough time at each to sit down somewhere in the shade.

The itinerary follows the animals rather than the map. Where they are in March is not where they are in August.
Placeholder copy. The parks are not interchangeable and they are not equally good in every month. Yala closes in September, Wilpattu is at its best when the villus hold water, and Kumana is a birding park that happens to have leopards in it.

Test matches at Galle, where the fort wall is the best seat in the ground and the ticket is free.
Placeholder copy. Galle is the reason people come, and the fort wall is the reason they stay. Tickets go on sale once the fixtures are confirmed, which is usually far later than visiting supporters would like.
Placeholder copy. A tour is built backwards from the match days: travel on the rest days, sightseeing in the mornings, and a room close enough to the ground that the walk back is part of the evening.

Honeymoons and anniversaries. The pace, mostly — late breakfasts, fewer stops, and a driver who knows when to disappear.
Placeholder copy. The most common mistake on a honeymoon itinerary is moving too often. Four properties in twelve days is comfortable; seven is a logistics exercise with a view.

Ratnapura has been trading sapphires for two thousand years. Going alone is how people get taken.

Off Trincomalee, before sixBy sea
Charter along the south coast in winter, or out from Trincomalee when the season turns.
Placeholder copy. Which coast depends entirely on the month. The south is settled from December to April; the east opens up from May and holds until September.
Placeholder copy. Charters are crewed, day or multi-day, and can be built around whale watching off Mirissa in season without turning into the boat everyone else is on.

Meetings, incentives, conferences and events. A different team, a different rhythm, the same island.
Placeholder copy. Groups of twelve and groups of two hundred are not the same problem. Both are planned by a named coordinator who stays with the programme from the site inspection to the last transfer.
